Joulters Cay The Bahamas

Joulters CayThe Bahamas
The ooid beaches of the Bahamas are comprised of rare grains of "sand." The grains are actually egg-shaped calcium carbonate particles formed in specific oceanographic conditions. Those conditions are most often found in shoals, sandbanks that create shallow water; Joulters Cay is one of the rare ooid beaches, and Andros Island (pictured above) has Pleistocene-epoch oolitic deposits.
